MCP Announces New Musical Director

The Cows are delighted and excited to announce that the uber talented local musician Mr Chris Lewis has joined the Herd as Musical Director for their Spring Musical 2014.

Chris Lewis was born and raised in Derbyshire, initially playing the cornet in his local village brass band and then with the Derbyshire County Youth Wind Band and Rhodian Brass.

When he was 17 he became a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and was lucky enough to perform with many eminent musicians, such as Sir Charles Groves, Malcolm Arnold, Pierre Boulez and Jessye Norman.

After gaining a music degree from Durham University he took a PGCE at Reading University and then moved to Shropshire for his first teaching post.

In 1993 he began his 15 year association with the Jackfield (Elcock Reisen) Band, first as Principal cornet and then as their Musical Director.

He currently teaches Music and Performance Studies at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College where he has also been the Musical Director for their productions of Les Miserables, Sweeney Todd and We Will Rock You.   He has also been seen treading the boards himself in productions of Summer Holiday and Little Shop of Horrors.

Chris enjoys playing the trumpet in the Severn Brass Quintet and has also very much enjoyed playing trumpet in the pit for the last four Mad Cow musicals. Now it’s time to put down the brass and pick up the baton and join the herd for their next Musical Extravaganza!!
